ROLLER CUTTERS FROM MIKA
The quality of the materials used for the roller cutters has a critical impact on their driving performance and the efficiency of the tunnelling. These are, after all, the components installed in the cutting head to ensure the smooth removal of soil or rock under extreme conditions – in the hardest rock formations and under the strongest water pressure. If these tools fail, the entire excavation process comes to a halt. To prevent any failures, our roller cutters are designed to enjoy a particularly long service life and are easily replaced, when required.
MIKA ROLLER CUTTERS – PRECISION AND KNOW-HOW DOWN TO THE SMALLEST DETAIL
Every roller cutter developed and designed by Mika is a result of decades of experience in the field of drilling technology in the mining, tunnelling and special foundation engineering sectors. This is particularly reflected in the bearing capabilities of the roller cutters, which are designed as fully filled cylindrical bearings with HD bearings in the radial area and caged bearings in the axial area. The additional surface hardening of the components forms the basis of the robust, wear-resistant bearing raceway as well as the characteristic impactresistance of the core. Perfect geometry and precision, together with the associated narrow tolerances of the bearing raceways, provide additional high load-carrying capacity reserves. The seals of Mika bearings are made of a particularly wear-resistant chilled cast iron. In addition, the use of a lubricant specially adapted to the challenges of drilling technology reduces wear, and at the same time ensures a long bearing life and good emergency running properties.

Mika roller cutters with fully filled cylindrical bearings:

MIKA CUTTER RINGS: DELIVERING ON OUR PROMISE, EVEN UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONS.
Mika cutter rings are made from high-tempered steel with specially hardened surfaces which are additionally equipped with pressed-in tungsten carbide inserts. These tungsten carbide inserts are produced on a specially developed machine to ensure a reliable fit, optimum power transmission to the rock and the highest precision in drilling. The inserts are made from a mixture further developed by us which includes a high tungsten carbide (WC) content and a particularly fine, uniform structure. The result: extremely high wear resistance and extreme flexural strength.
HIGHEST QUALITY STANDARDS ARE OUR STANDARD.
Only the highest-quality materials are used in the development and production of our components. As proof, each of our components is accompanied by an EN10204 – 3.1b material test certificate. The tungsten carbide we use is produced exclusively in Germany and, together with our suppliers, is specially adapted to the different areas of application and individual conditions. All design and production processes are carried out in-house at Mika. This allows us to react quickly and flexibly and proceed with solutions specifically adapted to the individual requirements of our customers.
The best example of this is our modular shaft ends, which allow the roller cutters to be adapted to the respective machine and drill head. In the extremely rare cases where our components do not meet the individual requirements of our customers, we are also able to design and manufacture custom-made solutions in our production facility.
